We sometimes hear or speak the expression, "The building has good bones, it just needs a face lift". This new roof will help extend the life of the barn and farm for years to come (an idea of true sustainability). I was amazed (and beaten) to learn the holding power of a ring-shank metal siding nail after being exposed to the weather for over 40 years. If you want to learn how to install a new metal roof, flashing, and trim, you first have to tear one off (and pull a few hundred nails).

Beginning a project (nights and weekends) from the ground up in the middle of fall can be a tense venture. Drastic temperature swings, daylight savings time, and the prime time of archery season are never built-in the planned schedule. We completed the roof, installed doors and windows, and finished wrapping the building just before the first snow fall of the season. Originally the building dreamed to be 36'x60', but compromising with budgets and subdivision restrictions the footprint is now 30'x50'. Strict, efficient organization will be paramount!
